The Cretan Sunday table requires a lamb. Lamb cooked in any way – with wild greens, artichokes or onions. But potatoes in the oven are a favorite that will leave no one complaining and make us proud cooks.

It’s simple and tasty, without a lot of ingredients and excess fanciness, as my friend says. Just like the Cretan cuisine. Good lamb from the mountains, fresh potatoes from Lassithi, oregano or thyme from the rocky areas of the island and of course olive oil, the green gold of the Cretan land.

Ingredients:
3 kg lamb (side)
8 big potatoes
100ml olive oil
Juice of two lemons
Thyme or oregano
Salt & pepper

Method:
Peel and wash the potatoes. Cut the potatoes into pieces and add salt, pepper, oregano and juice from one lemon.
Salt the lamb very well on both sides and place over the potatoes.
Drizzle with olive oil and a cup of water.
Bake in a preheated oven at 200 degrees Celsius over a low heat covered with greaseproof paper.
In one hour remove the oil and add the juice from the second lemon, lower the temperature to 180 degrees and bake for another hour.

Good luck!!!!
